Gin is a life-long resident of Dartmouth. He
received his education from Mount Saint Vincent
University, Dartmouth High, Bicentennial School,
Notting Park, and Southdale-North Woodside. During
his time at Dartmouth High School, Gin was very
involved in student activities and was a member of
student council. Upon graduation he was honored
with a Gold "D", and was the recipient of the
award for the highest participation during his
three years at the school.
At Mount Saint Vincent University, Gin
served in numerous positions. He was a member of
the MSVU's Board of Governors, Chair of Student
Council, and Managing Editor of the MSVU's student
paper.
Gin's involvement in the community has
included Chair of the Halifax Transit Advisory
Committee and a member of the Dartmouth Youth
Committee. Gin was Treasurer at Volleyball Nova
Scotia and Treasurer for the Nova Scotia
Volleyball Officials Association. Gin has been a
member of Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big
Sisters of Greater Halifax and the Big Brothers
Big Sisters (HRM) Foundation.
Gin has worked for several local
businesses, including his family's Chinese
restaurant, Mei Mee Foods on Wyse Road, Mount
Saint Vincent University, and Aliant. Gin is
currently employed with Visiondirect.com a
Walgreens Family of Companies as IT / Telecom
Manager for the last thirteen years and he is
responsible for $250,000 capital budget.
Gin Yee was first elected to the Halifax
Regional School Board (HRSB) in 2004 and
re-elected in 2008, 2012, and 2016. He is currently the
most senior Board member with HRSB, having
served on the following Board committees
and positions: Chair and Vice Chair of the
Board, Member of the Board of Directors, NSSBA,
Audit and Operations, By-Laws Chair, PPP
(Priorities, Planning, Policy) Chair,
Student Discipline, Student Transportation
RFP (Request for Proposal), and
Superintendent's Evaluation. School Board
members across the province have elected Gin
twice to the Executive with the Nova
Scotia School Boards' Association (NSSBA)
serving as Treasurer, chairing the Finance
Committee. He has also served on the
Association’s Resolutions Committee and
Education
Committee.
